Description: The Instructor I 7th Edition Certification Course contains 30-hours of student lectures, 3-hours of group projects, and 7-hours of required individual presentations. Each Instructor I Candidate will be required to make a 10-12 and 15-17 minute presentation throughout the Instructor I certification program (Not to include the Final Written Test and Practical Presentation). It is important for the Instructor I candidate to understand, the Instructor I certification training program offered by VDFP is a “college level” course requiring extensive reading and presentation preparation by each candidate.

VDFP, in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1041 “Standards for Fire Instructor Professional Qualifications”, requires that all candidates attend 100% of the 40-hour curriculum. (Candidates should ensure they are able to comply with the course schedule prior to registration.) Instructor I Candidates failing to attend 100% of the scheduled training program in sequential order will not be eligible to participate in the final certification testing and evaluation process. VDFP requires documented evidence of 100% attendance at all Instructor I training program sessions before allowing candidates to test.

To be eligible to register for the Instructor I Certification program, all Instructor I Candidates must have a current certification as a Level II Fire Fighter (or higher), have recognized training in Hazardous Materials Operations, and be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of registration. (Students who attend any portion of the Instructor I Certification training and fail to meet the precourse registration requirements will receive no credit for their attendance for that program.)

Upon successful completion of the 40-hour training program, qualifying candidates will be eligible to participate in the VDFP Instructor I Certification testing process. The final testing process is composed of a Final Written Test (50 multiple choice questions), and a Final Practical Evaluation (17-20 minute presentation).  The Final Practical Evaluation is required by each candidate and evaluated by an approved Instructor Trainer(s). VDFP requires a minimum score of 70% on the final written test, and a minimum score of 75 points on the Final Practical Evaluation.
