BOAT OPERATORS
The law and regulation that requires operators of motor boats that have a 10hp or greater engine does not exempt operators of boats performing rescues or fire boats. So, folks that are operating those vessels need to take a boating safety course. While this will eventually cover all boaters, we are phasing this requirement in by age.
Here is the phase in for motorboats (note - there is a different phase-in for PWCs) Age 20 or younger - July 1, 2011 Age 30 or younger - July 1, 2012 Age 40 or younger - July 1, 2013 Age 45 or younger - July 1, 2014 Age 50 or younger - July 1, 2015 All ages by July 1, 2016
